Lowell Feld , the netroots director of the Jim Webb Senate campaign, has taken issue with
The NY Times editorial I linked to that questioned the manner in which then Secretary Webb resigned his post.
Here's a question to those defending Jim Webb's actions back in the late 80's: If Jim Webb was correct and the budget of the Navy should not have been reduced, then who was wrong?
You see, you can't just say Defense Secretary Carlucci was wrong. Carlucci serves at the pleasure of President Reagan. So, was Reagan wrong, too?
And here's the best part . . . if Webb was right, what does this make John Kerry who was trying to cut even more from the defense budget at this time? How about Ted Kennedy? If Webb was right back in 1988, this means that EVERY Democrat who was for a more robust cut in defense spending was wrong.
I have yet to write a post that is a smear of Jim Webb and I never will. What I've done is question his place in the Democratic party. Webb's views are out of touch with nearly every Democrat in the Senate. If Webb is going to run as a Reagan Democrat, then he needs to be much more vocal in his attacks on the Democratic establishment from which he defected in 1980. Rather than criticize establishment Democrats
as he has in the past , however, Jim Webb has embraced them. These are not the actions of a Reagan Democrat.
