Speaking about the issue that has defined his candidacy, Ned Lamont told a church basement full of about 200 people tonight that, "Our nation is stronger when we work with our friends and negotiate with our enemies."
While I know he's been saying stuff like this ever since he started campaigning, my jaw still dropped when I heard it. Joe Lieberman is the guy who has committed himself to rolling back the "theological iron curtain" (his words) that has descended upon the Middle East. Ned Lamont is the guy who seems to think we can negotiate with the followers of jihad. Unless by "our enemies" he meant to exclude the ones with whom we're locked in an existential struggle.
