As much as the Bush Lied stuff is bunk, I can’t help but be underwhelmed tonight … this “new” stuff isn’t going to move anyone.
And as I hear Santorum be accused of running around with this release tonight to help his campaign, as he was hit with yet another bad-looking poll today, I can’t help but think helping him is not what this will do. If someone in his office thought “here’s what’s going to win the election for us” the senator should probably be listening to a different adviser.
Instead he looks like he’s fighting a battle from the past, albeit for upstanding reasons (setting the record straight on finds). As one smart guy said to me tonight: “As the guys who watch Wall Street say, the market [or, in this case, the public] has already factored in what they think about the failure to find WMD — a terrible development, but not enough of one to think removing Saddam was not worth it. Absent unanticipated knock-it-out-of-the-park evidence, we should leave it there, because revisiting this sorry episode does not help.”
